Go Confidently

May 15th, 2012 | Posted by katie in Personal - (0 Comments)

Thoreau said, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams.” A quote I have displayed in my office so that I can see it from my desk because I need to be constantly reminded to go confidently.  I am just naturally a quiet person, but there is a bold person in me trying to break out and every so often she does.

I was reminded the other day of how my freshmen year of high school I decided to run for class treasurer, which meant I had to give a speech to my entire class…Thinking back on it  can’t believe I had the courage to do that, none the less give the speech I gave. I can’t remember how I started off exactly but I stood at the podium (shaking life a leaf, I’m sure) with around 300 faces look back at me…..”Would everyone scoot to the edge of their seat,” I saw everyone reluctantly move forward, “Now will you scoot to the left…to the right… and back,” with every move the faces grew more confused, “With your cooperation we have dusted nearly every seat in the auditorium and with your cooperation I can be class treasurer!” I am sure some people thought it was lame, I mean come on it was high school everything was lame, but I remember laughter, the good kind of laughter, the I was a hit kind of laughter.

That memory reminded me that if I go confidently anything thing happen, like a shy southern girl giving a crazy speech to all of her peers. Everyday I challenge you to go confidently.

Oh and by the way I won the election.

All of the planning for Emily and Stuart’s Wedding has finally come to an end and their day was perfect.

I met Emily at Studio 93 Salon in Downtown Buford, GA. Her hair was done by Tammy and make up by Marcia.

Tall bride’s are so lucky that they can wear comfy shoes! I love these white Toms…. I actually had on the same shoes except in black.

Emily carried her great grandmother’s handkerchief with her bouquet.

The Groomsmen where very entertaining during my time with them, they were not afraid to strike a pose for the camera.

Love this candid shot I got of the girls, I was not clear in my instructions and it led to some laughter……I mean I totally planned it…

The Handsome Groom and the Beautiful Bride just before the “I Dos.”

After the ceremony they both were all smiles!

The Cakes were made by Jamie Cappelletti from Creations Bakery in Cumming, GA

These extremely cute signs were made by Lori Hogle.

2013 Senior Model: Massey, Dalton High

April 24th, 2012 | Posted by katie in Seniors - (0 Comments)

When you come from a small town like Tunnel Hill, GA and a large family like mine, it seems that everyone is my cousin. During my travels over the weekend I decided to squeeze in a Senior Session in my home town. When I met Massey and he mom I found out we were actually related. It was great hanging out with them on a relatives farm and talking about family. It made me feel closer to my southern roots and I think by the time I left my southern accent had thickened (if that is possible).

For Massey’s senior portraits she had several great outfits and I was excited to shoot them all. We had a wonderful farm as our setting with an awesome barn, green grass and Honeysuckles!

I love the light in the next one!

While on a farm cowgirl boots are a must!

Just look at those eyes! Gorgeous!!

This might be my favorite dress from the shoot!

The Honeysuckles smelled so good and tasted good too! Every true southern girl grew up tasting a few Honeysuckles.

Gorgeous Maggie, from Buford High School,  is one of my 2013 senior portrait models. Day 37: Coffee Meeting!
I love meeting Brides for Coffee. My favorite is a Chi Tea Latte! I also enjoy lemon-poppy seed muffins.

Day 38: Looks Cool
These a some little Ikea vases I have and I just thought they were cool! I love nick-naks.

Day 39: Start Simple
I read on a blog I follow that drinking lemon water with a bit of honey in the mornings is good for you….so I am trying it. I drink this first thing before I shock my body awake with caffeine.

Day 40: Musically Challenged
This guitar just sits in our house taking up space…it really should go to a good home where it will get used. We posted it foe sale.

Day 41: Welcome to Barberitos!
….oh wrong place? well that is how I feel when I go in to Barberitos, it is my favorite place for a burrito and I do not have one close to me.

Day 42: Senior- ites
I visited my home town this weekend and while I was there I took senior photos for my Husband’s cousin. Check her out, so pretty!

Day 43: Love is Everywhere
While we were visiting Dalton we ate breakfast at Bojangles. Look at the cute heart blueberry biscuits Chris ordered.

Day 30: Smells Good
We love sun-dried Tomatoes and loving coming up with ways to use them in meals!

Day 31: Cookie Monsters!
Chris and I can’t have these in the house often…I cooked half a dozen after dinner Monday and the rest on Tuesday and both days we ate them all!!!! We can’t stop after one or two.

Day 32: Tea for two.
I met up friend and fellow photographer, Stephanie Hicks, to chat, take pictures and have some tea!

Day 33: Sick Day
Chris spent the day with me because he was sick…I hated that he felt bad but it was nice to have him home….and he got better fast!

Day 34: Girls Night
I got to hang out with my college pals and best friends! They are the best and it is not often that we can find time for all four us to hang out at the same time! We played cards and ate a yummy dinner….I tired to get them in my picture but they hid….. I will be working on a project soon that involves photographing them though.

Day 35: Meet Up
I have filled my calendar with different networking meetings so I can get out there meet new people and make friends.

Day 36: Sneak Peak
This is a sneak peak of a new site I am working on….it may or may not end up like this because I change my mind A lot!!!

This wedding photography post is a blast from the past but it didn’t make onto the new blog yet. I shot this wedding in Tunnel Hill, GA where I grew up, in the church I grew up in and I use to babysit the Groom… so needless to say it was close to my heart. I was honored that they asked me to be their wedding photography.  Just outside of Chattanooga, TN we meet on a sunny afternoon for this DIY wedding, which was great because every aspect meant so much to the bride and groom.

Weddings are all about the moments, such as a mother buttoning the bride’s wedding dress.

This cute flower girl dress was found on Etsy. Etsy is a wonderful resource for brides to find wedding items.

The bride and her wedding party all wore cowboy boots, so cute.

My Life in Photos: Days 23-29

January 30th, 2012 | Posted by katie in Personal | Photography - (0 Comments)

I want to preface last weeks photos by saying I feel as though I have already gotten very slack in my daily photos so I am challenging myself to get more creative! I tend to focus all of my attention to photographing weddings (which I love love love) but I need to challenge myself to other creative projects.

Day 23: Working it!
I was really focused on my office worked today and was camped out in my office.

Day 24: Inspire Me!
My office is filled with things that inspire me, including quotes in my wall, photos, books I love and nicknacks from trips.

Day 25: Where Do They Go?!
I finally did it…I tackled the unmatched sock pile and I still had tons left over missing their mate. This is why I like funky socks…they are easier to match.

Day 26: Yuck… I Mean Yum!
Why do Brussels sprouts get such a bad rap?  I mean they look like tiny lettuce heads, so cute.  I had some in a restaurant that were awesome so I decided to make them at home…not so bad. Of course I could never coax Chris into trying them.

Day 27: Compact History
While cleaning out a closet I found a bunch of old CDs that date back to my high school days. The mix of CDs just highlights my eclectic personality… I plan on doing a Blog Post on what I found.

Day 28: Providing an Experience
I spent the weekend watching an amazing live workshop (on CreativeLive) with photographers Zach and Jody Gray. They provided so much great information. I am so thankful to them and to Creative Live for putting together such awesome free workshops!

Day 29: Early Church
Chris and I went to early church (so I could get back for the workshop). I am not a morning person but I rather enjoyed the morning and my favorite singer at Buckhead church preformed, James David Carter.
